Downtown San Francisco is about a 30-40-minute drive from the airport. Most travelers to the city are more than likely headed downtown, including business travelers. Should the need arise to catch an early flight, it may be convenient to stay by the airport the night before.

Also, families visiting the area may opt to stay close to the airport and out of the hubbub of tourists. You may not mind a short jaunt into Fisherman's Wharf if necessary to avoid high prices.

Many of the chains are represented by the San Francisco airport, including the Best Western Grosvenor Hotel, the Hilton, La Quinta, Motel 6 and the Ramada Inn Airport.
